Renowned actress and model Mehazabien Chowdhury is set to make her silver screen debut in Priyo Maloti, an upcoming film jointly produced by Frame Per Second and the OTT platform Chorki. Chorki announced the film’s theatrical release on its verified Facebook page on Thursday, confirming it will soon premiere in cinemas.
Directed, written, and scripted by Shankha Dasgupta, Priyo Maloti features Mehazabien in the titular role. Reflecting on her first feature film, she shared heartfelt gratitude for her audience.
“From the beginning, the audience supported me. From my early days until now, they have accepted and loved almost all of my stories and characters. I have come this far thanks to their love, and I believe the audience will come to the theatres to watch my debut and enjoy it,” she said.
The film has already been showcased at the Cairo International Film Festival and the International Film Festival of India, where it earned acclaim for its relatable storyline, which resonated with international audiences despite its domestic setting.
For Shankha Dasgupta, Priyo Maloti marks his debut as a filmmaker after a successful career in television direction. Speaking about the project, he said, “The story of Priyo Maloti depicts a lost life that everyone can relate to. The world is changing; reforms are taking place everywhere, and my films reflect this call for reform. I hope the audience will reflect on the movie and appreciate what we have created.”
Redoan Rony, CEO of Chorki, highlighted the film’s unique appeal. “Theatre needs a variety of stories. Realistic, story-driven movies should accompany blockbuster films, and Priyo Maloti represents our daily lives. It tells a story about what happens in our world,” he said.
He also noted the anticipation surrounding Mehazabien’s cinematic debut. “Everyone’s favourite actress, Mehazabien, is coming to the big screen, and we can see the audience’s excitement for the film. We will announce the release date soon,” Rony added.
In Priyo Maloti, Mehazabien portrays a resilient woman from a lower-middle-class background, sharing the screen with actors such as Nader Chowdhury, Azad Abul Kalam, Shahjahan Samrat, and Rizvi Riju. The film was shot in Dhaka and Barishal between September and October last year.
