A Secondary School Certificate (SSC) examinee was hacked to death inside her house in Dhaka’s Dhamrai on Thursday afternoon.
The incident took place in the Lakuriapara area under Dhamrai municipality.
The victim, Nahida Akter, 16, was a student of Dhamrai Central School. She used to live with her grandmother at Lakuriapara.
According to family members, her mother lives abroad, while her father resides in Barishal.
Police said Nahida was studying at home in the afternoon when her grandmother went out for some household work.
After returning home about an hour later, she found Nahida lying on the floor in a pool of blood.
The girl was rushed to Gonoshasthaya Samaj Vittik Medical College Hospital in Savar, where the on-duty physician declared her dead.
Dhamrai police station Officer-in-Charge Md Nazmul Huda Khan said the victim bore injury marks on her body.
“However, how and why the incident occurred, and who was involved, could not be immediately determined,” he said, adding that legal action is underway in this regard.
