Police have arrested three people along with fake currency worth Tk 20 lakh and equipment used to produce counterfeit notes from Kamrangirchar and Narayanganj, officials said on Saturday.
The arrestees were identified as Sumon, 38, Sultana, 28, and Hanif Gazi, 48, reports UNB.
During a regular drive in the Kamrangirchar area on Thursday, police arrested them at the Beribadh check-post around 1:30 pm, said Talebur Rahman, deputy commissioner (media) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police.
Law enforcers also recovered Tk 20 lakh in fake currency notes, partially printed notes worth Tk 9.76 lakh in denominations of 1,000 and 500, and equipment used to print counterfeit notes.
Meanwhile, a separate team of police conducted a drive in Kadamtoli of Siddhirganj areas and recovered fake notes worth Tk 16 lakh along with some equipment on Thursday afternoon.
During preliminary interrogation, police learned that the arrestees had long been involved in counterfeiting and distributing fake notes to different areas.
Later, they were produced before a court, which placed them on a two-day remand.
