Syeda Rizwana Hasan, Advisor to the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change and the Ministry of Water Resources, stated that addressing the adverse effects of climate change on agriculture requires a coordinated approach.
“To achieve this, the Ministries of Agriculture, Water Resources, and Environment, Forest and Climate Change are working collaboratively. She emphasized the need for long-term planning to ensure sustainable agricultural production,” she said.
Advisor Rizwana made these remarks on Wednesday as the chief guest at a roundtable discussion titled “Impact of Climate Change on Agriculture and the Way Forward,” organized by Bangladesh Agricultural Reporters Forum (BARF) at the National Press Club, according to a press release.
The advisor highlighted that agricultural production is declining due to droughts, excessive rainfall, salinity, and floods. To solve these challenges, the use of research and innovative technology is essential.
She also stressed the importance of producing safe and organic food, urging everyone to contribute to this effort. Ensuring safe food is a shared responsibility, and organizing safe food fairs is vital. Awareness regarding pesticide use is equally important.
