Sheikh Hasina, the former Prime Minister of Bangladesh, is at the center of allegations involving a secret prison network that has reportedly operated for the past 16 years. Advocate Mohammad Tajul Islam, Chief Prosecutor of the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT), claims Hasina is directly linked to disappearances, torture, and murders carried out within these secret facilities. Tajul Islam made these statements during a session on Tuesday.
The prosecutor also revealed that the court had set a two-week deadline for updates on agreements with India concerning the case.
In a related development, the tribunal expressed concerns about the movements of Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader. Despite an arrest warrant, Quader reportedly managed to cross the border after remaining in Bangladesh for three months. The tribunal has instructed the Inspector General of Police to explain within 15 days how Quader evaded arrest and managed to cross the border.
Tajul Islam stressed that the investigation is ongoing, and adequate time is needed for its completion. He also warned that individuals who assist fugitives in evading justice, despite a court order, could face prosecution.
