Advisor to the Ministry of Environment, Forests, Climate Change and Water Resources Syeda Rizwana Hasan said strict action will be taken against those who encroach on rivers and forest lands.
“The government is working to keep the environment free from pollution. Development activities are being carried out as per the expectations of the people. We are moving towards sustainable development by avoiding destructive development,” she said.
Syeda Rizwana Hasan said this while addressing the program titled "Eco Leaders Youth Empowering Initiative on Environment, Climate and Renewable Energy for Bangladesh" organized at the Bangladesh Military Museum on Sunday evening, virtually from Pan Pacific Sonargaon, as the chief guest.
The environment advisor said, “Due to climate change, Bangladesh is facing challenges such as floods, drought and salinity. Everyone, including the youth, must come forward to address these. All problems can be solved with collective efforts.”
Earlier in the afternoon, she delivered a speech as the chief guest at a program organized at the Agargaon NGO Affairs Bureau on the occasion of International Human Rights Day. She said, “The current government has taken various initiatives to protect human rights. The commissions are working for necessary reforms. Women will be involved in the NAP plan to combat climate change.”
The program was presided over by Shaheen Anam, Executive Director of the Manusher Jonno Foundation. Karin Henchoz Pignani, Charge d'Affaires of the Swiss Embassy, Nicolas Weeks, Ambassador of Sweden, Md. Anwar Hossain, Director General of the NGO Affairs Bureau, Barrister Sara Hossain, Executive Director, BLAST, and Member, Women's Rights Reform Commission, Sharmin Neelrami, Professor, Jahangirnagar University, spoke on the occasion among others.
