The International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) has imposed a ban on dissemination of ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina’s defamatory speeches on both social media and mass media.
Besides, the tribunal has ordered the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) to remove all the “hate speeches” that Hasina has made in the past, as she is the main accused in the July-August massacre case.
In response to the prosecution’s petition, a three-judge tribunal led by Justice Md Golam Mortuza Mazumdar passed the order on Thursday.
Earlier, the prosecution team has filed a petition to the International Crimes Tribunal seeking a ban on the broadcast of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's defamatory remarks in the media and on social media.
For the past few days, Sheikh Hasina, who is currently staying in India, has made various insults about the interim government through social media, which have been spread in various ways on social media.
The prosecution says that this petition is to stop all the “hate speeches” that the former prime minister is making.
Earlier, on November 18, the ICT had ordered the completion of the investigation against former Prime Minister and Awami League President Sheikh Hasina within a month in the case filed in connection with the July-August massacre. The report must be submitted by December 17.
After the AL led government’s fall from the power, more than 150 allegations, including enforced disappearances, murders, and genocide, have been filed with the tribunal against Sheikh Hasina, Awami League and its associate parties, and former top officials of the law enforcement agencies. 25 people, including 10 former ministers, have been arrested so far.
