Awami League advisory council member and former minister Amir Hossain Amu has been sent to prison after completing a six-day remand in connection with the murder of businessman Abdul Wadud in the Newmarket area of Dhaka.
On Tuesday morning, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Sharifur Rahman rejected Amu’s bail application and ordered his remand to prison. After six days in police custody, Amu was presented in the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate's Court, where the investigating officer requested continued detention until the investigation concluded.
In response, Amu's defense lawyer filed for bail, but after hearing both sides, Magistrate Rahman denied the request and ordered him to be taken to jail.
Amu was arrested on November 6 in the Dhanmondi area by the Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police. He was granted a six-day remand on November 7 by Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Shaheen Reza.
Businessman Abdul Wadud was fatally shot by police on July 19 in the Neelkhet area during the anti-discrimination student protests. Wadud's brother-in-law, Abdur Rob, filed a murder case at Newmarket police station, accusing 130 individuals, including fled Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and former Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader.
