The Awami League and the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement have called competing rallies at Zero Point in Gulistan, Dhaka.
Both rallies are scheduled to begin after 3 p.m. today, Sunday.
To counter the Awami League's program, students and people have been gathering at Zero Point since midnight yesterday, with thousands more assembling since this morning. They are chanting various slogans around Zero Point, while the police remain on high alert in the area.
On the ground, it can be observed that law enforcement agencies are on high alert in Gulistan, particularly around Noor Hossain Square and the Awami League’s central office, to prevent any disorder.
There is a noticeable increase in police presence at various intersections around Zero Point and other parts of the capital compared to usual.
Significant numbers of police and intelligence personnel have gathered in front of the Secretariat Road. Additionally, an armored vehicle has been deployed by the police in the area.
A police officer from the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) provided an update on the security arrangements, stating, "Multiple platoons of police officers are deployed to ensure security. We have officers stationed at every intersection around Zero Point to maintain safety. Additionally, personnel from all law enforcement agencies are present in plain clothes. We will continue to monitor and secure the area from morning until night for today’s events."
Earlier, on November 9, the Awami League's verified Facebook page announced a protest rally scheduled for 3 PM on November 10.
The party called on its leaders and activists to assemble at Zero Point in Gulistan for the demonstration.
