Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman on Saturday paid deep respect to the memory of Shaheed Noor Hossain on the occasion of Shaheed Noor Hossain Day to be observed on Sunday, reports BSS.
“On the occasion of Shaheed Noor Hossain Day, I pay deep respect to the memory of Shaheed Noor Hossain, the hero of the anti-dictatorship movement. I pray for eternal peace of the departed soul of him,” he said in a message.
Noor Hossain, who imprinted his bare chest and back with the slogans "Free democracy" and "Down with autocracy", embraced martyrdom during an anti-autocracy demonstration in the firing of dictator backed police force on November 10 in 1987, he said.
“Noor is an unforgettable name in the history of our democratic movement,” he added.
The voice of this young man 'Noor' who was vocal in demanding democracy was silenced by the gun of dictator, Tarique Rahman said, adding that the contribution of Noor to this country did not go in vain.
By killing Noor Hossain, the dictator-backed cohorts wanted to stop the anti-dictatorship movement, he said, adding that but the dictator stepped down in the mass upsurge of late 1990 and the country's democracy was freed through the sacrifice of Noor Hossain.
