Dr Zahid Hussain said that general people and businessperson are getting panic-stricken upon watching some news and that’s why fact-checking has become more important.
Dr Zahid Hussain, former lead economist of the World Bank’s Dhaka office, made these remarks on Tuesday while talking to the Bangladesh Pratidin.
“At the same time, businesspersons should also do fact-check without being confused by any report,” he added.
“Fact should be checked, and the issue should be included in government’s Media Reforms Commission,” the renowned economist said, adding, “Journalist must cross-check information that they gathered from sources”.
“Not only that, Journalists must take the statement of the responsible authority of the institutions from which they gather information.”
“I hardly visit social media,” he said while talking about the authenticity social media news. “A lot of baseless news spreads there.”
“It is being served in a way that people think “Authentic” upon seeing them. Print media is far better, and reliable,” he said.
“When people will take the media seriously?”
Answering to the question, He said, “When people see that a media provides authentic and objective news for a long period they tend to take the media seriously.”
“On the other hand, if a media spread fake news, over the time then ultimately, no one will trust the media,” he said, adding that here are some media that was blaspheming again and again.
These media for sure will lose the audiences and consumers of their content.
