Eight tankers of an oil-laden train derailed near the Ansarbaria railway station in Jibannagar upazila of Chuadanga, causing a complete halt to rail communication between Khulna and the rest of the country. Consequently, hundreds of passengers are experiencing difficulties, stuck on various trains at different stations.
The incident took place on early wednesday, shortly after passing the Utholi railway station in the Jibannagar upazila, near the Ansarbaria railway station. Mintu Kumar Roy, the railway station master of Utholi in Jivan Nagar upazila, confirmed this information.
He confirmed that the empty oil train was en route to Khulna when it derailed. As a result, rail services have been halted. A rescue relief train has been dispatched to assist with recovery efforts, but it may take several hours for services to resume.
Chuadanga Station Master Mizanur Rahman stated that the oil tanker, which departed from Parbatipur, derailed near Ansarbaria station. Recovery efforts started at around 7 AM on Wednesday, and train services will resume once the operation is completed.
