Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) arrested a smuggler with 15 gold bars, weighing 1.652 kilogram, from Sarsha border in Jashore on Tuesday morning.
The detainee has been identified as Jalal Uddin, 35, son of Ali Kadam hailed from Putkhali village under Benapole police station.
On information, a special team of BGB headquarters conducted a raid at Gogo bazaar area at 11:30am. Later, they detained Jalal Uddin from there and recovered 15 gold bars from his motorcycle, said Khulna 21 BGB Battalion Commander Lt. Col. Mohammad Tanveer Rahman.
The estimated price of the gold is Tk1.25 crore.
He also said that patrolling activities have been strengthened in the border areas to prevent gold smuggling and such activities will be increased further.
