A new sleeper train service is set to launch this summer, linking five European countries on a single 745-mile route for the first time with tickets starting at just £40.
Operated by PKP Intercity, the train will run from Warsaw, Poland, to the Croatian coastal city of Rijeka, passing through Austria, Slovenia, and briefly through Czechia.
Although the route doesn’t include any Czech stops, passengers will travel through major cities including Vienna and Ljubljana.
Currently, travelers face a 30-hour journey involving three train changes to cover the same route.
The new direct service will cut that time down significantly to 19 hours, departing Warsaw at 2:00 PM and arriving in Rijeka by 9:00 am the next day.
Running four times a week on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, and Sundays the service will operate from June 27 through August 31. Ticket prices start at around 200 Polish złoty (approximately £39.53).
The train will offer couchette cars with beds, full bedding provided, and air-conditioned carriages. A dining car will be available from Warsaw to Vienna, and passengers in sleeper compartments will receive dedicated service from onboard staff.
With picturesque views of Central and Southern Europe and a comfortable overnight ride, the Warsaw-Rijeka sleeper train promises to be an affordable and scenic travel option this summer.
