Beetroot is a nutrient-rich winter vegetable that offers more benefits than just regulating blood pressure. The latest discovery about beetroots will surely surprise you.

A recent study conducted by Wake Forest University has found that drinking beetroot juice before exercise could have anti-ageing benefits for the brain, particularly in older adults with high blood pressure.

To conduct the study, the researchers involved 26 participants who were aged 55 or older and consumed a beetroot shot before walking on a treadmill three times a week.

Beetroot can help you look young

According to the study, the team of researchers focused on exploring ways to enhance the positive effects of exercise on brain ageing. The researchers divided participants into two groups. Among this half received Beet-It, a beetroot shot containing 560 milligrams of nitrate, and the other half got a placebo version with minimal nitrate content.

While, on the other hand, the study also focused on the hypertensive older adults who exercise alone compared to the younger adults and saw how a beetroot juice supplement to exercise resulted in brain connectivity among both groups.

While, on the other hand, the study also focused on the hypertensive older adults who exercise alone compared to the younger adults and saw how a beetroot juice supplement to exercise resulted in brain connectivity among both groups.

These participants were selected particularly because of the lack of physical activities among them, had high blood pressure, and took no more than two medications for their health problems. They consumed the beetroot juice supplement one hour earlier, completing a 50-minute treadmill walk.

Beetroot is an anti-ageing food

Beetroot is rich in nitric oxide, which is a powerful molecule, and it goes to the areas of the body that are hypoxic, or needing oxygen, and the brain is a heavy feeder of oxygen in your body. Apart from the nitric oxide, beetroot is also rich in dietary nitrate, transforming the nitrite and nitric oxide when it gets ingested. However, numerous studies have demonstrated that nitric oxide can boost the performance of individuals of all age groups by increasing the blood flow in the body, noted the researchers.
