As cities across the world gear up for New Year celebrations highlighting local cultures and traditions, Australia and New Zealand ‘welcome 2025’ with fireworks. New Zealand’s Auckland has become the first major city to welcome 2025 with thousands of revellers counting down to the new year and cheering at colourful fireworks launched from New Zealand’s tallest structure, Sky Tower, and a spectacular downtown light show.
Meanwhile, from Sydney to London, and Rio De Janeiro to Tokyo, major cities across the globe will illuminate the welcome with firework shows. New York will host its famous Ball Drop featuring performances from Kesha, T-Pain, The Jonas Brothers, Blake Shelton, Lenny Kravitz, Alanis Morissette (with Reneé Rapp), Laufey, Carrie Underwood and Natasha Bedingfield.
Police deployment in major cities: Starting at 7 pm, buses heading towards Delhi’s Connaught Place will be diverted, and by 9 pm, the exit gates of Rajiv Chowk Metro Station will be shut to prevent overcrowding. QR tickets to Connaught Place will be unavailable from 8 pm onwards. On the other hand, Greater Chennai Police issued a statement banning fire crackers in all areas including public and residential spaces. Mumbai Police will deploy 15,000 personnel across the city, and Kolkata City Police will deploy 4,500 officers and personnel from Park Street to Alipore.
