The United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) chief Philippe Lazzarini said that the looming famine in northern Gaza is “man made” and accuses Israel yet again of weaponising hunger in its war on the Palestinian enclave, reports Al Jazeera.
“Famine is likely happening in northern Gaza,” he said in a post on X (formerly known as twitter).
“This deprives people in Gaza of the basics including food to survive. What is being allowed into Gaza is not enough, an average of just over 30 trucks/ day. This is just over six per cent of the daily needs.”
The UN-backed Famine Review Committee has warned of “an imminent and substantial likelihood of famine occurring” in northern Gaza amid increased hostilities and a near-halt to the entry of food aid.
