Shafiqul Alam, press secretary to the interim government’s chief advisor said inflation figures were presented to the public in a fabricated manner during Sheikh Hasina’s regime.
He made this remark at a workshop organized by Research and Policy Integration for Development on Sunday.
Shafiqul Alam said that during the tenure of ousted former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, the correct inflation figures were not shared to the people; rather, they were presented in a fabricated manner.
He also said that the current government is working to control the market by providing accurate inflation figures.
Economists who participated in the discussion said that the prices of daily commodities increased due to the short-sighted initiatives of the Sheikh Hasina government. But then, the blame was placed on the Ukraine-Russia war. They said that the global situation was responsible for this.
The economists urged for taking quick action to control inflation, saying that along with increasing supply, market supervision must be strengthened.
