About potential of the sector, he said jewellery alike RMG will be a major contributor to the country’s export earnings.
He said, “Gold trading was like an underground business in the past. We were in fix to settle business with hundreds of bhories of gold. We remained scared of police and NBR officials. However, Bangabandhu’s daughter Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has gifted us with a gold policy. We can now handle business with dignity.”
Referring to the contribution of BAJUS President, he said “Although Sayem Sobhan Anvir is the Managing Director of Asia’s largest business conglomerate Bashundhara Group, he has helmed the neglected jewellery sector. So, we are grateful to him.”
“We will see massive development in the sector following the gold policy announced by the Prime Minister. Bangladesh will export ornaments engraved with portrait of Bangabandhu and the expression ‘Made in Bangladesh.’ The sector will contribute to the country’s GDP,” he said.
Dr Dilip also suggested the jewellers to protest against any irregularity including trading of smuggled gold.
“Whenever you see trading of smuggled gold, register instant protest. A list of the unscrupulous gold traders will be submitted to the law enforcers. Shops of such traders will be sealed by the authorities.”
Calling for discipline, he said “We will operate business honestly and make profit. We have no relations with the people who tamper with measurement and compromise with quality of gold.”
