YouTube, owned by Google, is adding new features to improve the user experience. One of these is a floating "Play something" button, which is currently being tested in the YouTube app for Android.
The feature is discovered by 9to5Google in the YouTube app for Android. Found above the bottom bar, users can tap the button, and it will automatically select a video to play, making the viewing experience simple and easy, reports techlusive.in.
How the Feature Operates:
When you tap the 'Play Something' button on YouTube, a video will start playing in a special player mode. This is similar to YouTube Shorts but not limited to Shorts—it also plays regular videos. The player includes several buttons that allow you to like, dislike, comment, or share the video.
The feature also includes a timeline button at the bottom, allowing you to scroll through the video. However, when the video is playing in the special player, the ‘Play Something’ button will disappear. This means you won’t be able to use it to play another random video until you exit the player mode.
The video in this special player will be displayed in a vertical format, occupying most of the screen. The company has been testing this feature since last year. The 'Play Something' feature is available in version 19.50 for Android.
Recently, YouTube introduced the 'Parent Code' lock feature, giving parents more control over their children's viewing habits. When activated, this feature requires users to enter a 4-digit password to access YouTube.
