Meta Platforms announced on Monday a significant update to its Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses, introducing AI-powered video capabilities and real-time language translation, reports Reuters.
The new features, first revealed at Meta’s Connect conference in September, are now available to members of its "Early Access Program" as part of the v11 software update, which begins rolling out Monday (California local time).
With the update, the glasses gain the ability to process visual input and provide real-time responses via Meta's AI chatbot assistant. Additionally, they can now translate speech in real-time between English and Spanish, French, or Italian.
"When speaking with someone in one of these languages, users can hear translations through the glasses' open-ear speakers or view transcripts on their phones," Meta explained in a blog post.
The update also adds Shazam integration, allowing users to identify songs directly through the glasses. This feature will be available in the U.S. and Canada.
Meta previously announced other enhancements, including tools to set reminders, scan QR codes, and read phone numbers using voice commands.
