X users no longer need a Premium subscription to access the platform’s AI chatbot, Grok. The service now offers 10 free prompts every 2 hours, as reported by The Verge, citing feedback from users who observed the change.
X initially tested the free version of Grok in select countries, including New Zealand, last month, according to TechCrunch. Along with the 10 free prompts, users can also generate 10 free images every 2 hours, although they are limited to analyzing three images per day. Additional usage requires a subscription.
This shift introduces a freemium model for Grok, aligning it with similar offerings from OpenAI’s ChatGPT and Anthropic’s Claude. Previously, Grok was exclusive to X Premium members, who paid $8 per month or $84 per year for access.
xAI, the AI company responsible for Grok, recently raised $6 billion in funding, bringing its total capital to $12 billion, according to an SEC filing.
