Argentiana Coach Lionel Scaloni announced the final 26-man squad on Thursday, whittling it down from a provisional group.
Included are 17 players who won the tournament in 2022 in Qatar, including captain and record goalscorer Messi.
The 38-year-old was taken off early in Inter Miami’s final MLS match before the World Cup after he signalled to come off, prompting fears of an injury.
It was announced that Messi was suffering with a hamstring injury, but Scaloni has named eight-time Ballon d’Or winner in the squad nonetheless.
Other key contributors four years ago that have been included this time are goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez, who proved pivotal in the penalty shoot-out in the final against France, and Cristian Romero, a rock at the back.
There are injury concerns around the two after Martinez played in the UEFA Europa League final victory over Freiburg with a broken finger, and Romero was absent from Tottenham Hotspur's last six league games due to a knee problem.
Messi's Inter Miami team-mate Rodrigo De Paul was also named in the squad, another key figure in Qatar.
De Paul's partnership with Alexis Mac Allister in the centre of midfield gave the platform for Messi to shine and claim his first World Cup trophy, something he will be looking to add to in North America.
Messi's job will be made easier by the plethora of attacking talent on offer for Argentina, with Julian Alvaraz, Nicolas Paz, Giuliano Simeone and Lautaro Martinez all given call-ups.
At the back, there are plenty of familiar faces back once again, including Manchester United's Lisandro Martinez and Benfica's Nicolas Otamendi.
Two of the more notable omissions from Scaloni's squad are Real Madrid winger Franco Mastantuono and veteran defender Marcos Acuna.
Eighteen-year-old Mastantuono has enjoyed somewhat of a breakthrough season in Madrid, but perhaps this World Cup comes too soon for him.
Acuna, meanwhile, played almost every game in Qatar for Argentina, but has been left out this time in favour of other defensive options.
Argentina begin the defence of their World Cup title against Algeria in Kansas City on June 17, before taking on Austria on June 22 and Jordan on June 28.
