Bangladesh’s tactical preparations for tonight’s SAFF Women’s Championship opener against the Maldives were finally completed this morning following the belated arrival of their video analyst, Mehedi Hasan Siddiqui, who had been delayed in Dhaka by visa complications.
In modern football, a video analyst is considered an indispensable part of the coaching framework, traditionally stationed in the stands to record and dissect every phase of play. This footage is vital for evaluating team structure and identifying critical flaws. Yet, remarkably, the Bangladesh national team travelled to India and navigated their pre-tournament camp entirely without this crucial backroom asset.
Adding to the perplexity of the situation, Siddiqui’s name was notably absent from the official contingent list released by the Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) prior to the team's departure. It was only through a sudden, eleventh-hour directive that he was summoned just a day before the match. Having finally secured his Indian visa two days ago, he touched down in Goa and was immediately thrust into the frantic reality of match-day preparations to fill the glaring void in the dugout.
"My visa was delayed," Siddiqui said upon his arrival at the team hotel. "There is a video session today before the match. The opponent's strengths and weaknesses will be shown there."
The pressure on Siddiqui is immense, not just for tonight's fixture, but for the daunting final group-stage match against the tournament hosts, India, on 31 May. Tasked with decoding the tactical setups of their regional rivals, Siddiqui revealed that he had been forced to operate as a remote operative while stranded at home, relying on digital feeds to keep the head coach informed.
"Even though I was outside the camp, I maintained regular contact with the coach," Siddiqui explained. "I communicated what the coach needed and what I observed. Specifically, I watched the match between the Maldives and India on YouTube and shared my review with him. I have also provided information on what India did or how they played in their previous matches."
With the backroom staff now fully assembled, Bangladesh will hope the logistical scramble and sudden roster adjustments do not translate into tactical vulnerability on the pitch tonight.
