The tradition of awarding a series best player with a car will make a return to Bangladesh cricket after 21 long years with the white-ball series against visiting Australia.
The Aussies will play three One Day Internationals, all in Dhaka, on 9, 11 and 14 June, while three T20 Internationals are scheduled to be held in Chattogram on 17, 19 and 21 June.
During Tuesday’s signing agreement with car brand Chery in Mirpur, Bangladesh Cricket Board’s ad-hoc committee head Tamim Iqbal expressed belief that this kind of similar deal will only benefit Bangladesh cricket in future and inspire the cricketers.
“This is a matter of pride for us. It will be good for our cricket if more such companies come forward and join hands with Bangladesh cricket. It will provide incentive to our players ahead of a series,” said Tamim.
The former Bangladesh captain also reminisced that his elder brother Nafees Iqbal had been awarded a car back in 2005 when the Tigers claimed their maiden Test win, against Zimbabwe.
The car will be rewarded to Bangladesh’s “Most Valuable Player” across both the ODI and T20I series. The model of the car or its price has not been revealed.
