The Bangladesh women's team made a strong start by defeating Uganda 42-22 points in the opening match of the Women's Kabaddi World Cup. The team led by Smriti Akhter and Rupali was slightly ahead by 14-12 points in the first half of the match, but was able to maintain the rhythm in the second half and increased the gap by all-outing Uganda twice.
Players, coaches and officials were present at the match held at the Shahid Suhrawardy Indoor Stadium in Mirpur of the capital on Monday. The opening phase of the World Cup began with the applause of students and a pleasant cultural program.
Smriti Akhter of Bangladesh was adjudged the Man of the Match. This player, who came up from Rajshahi, felt the joy of victory even though it was her first time playing in the World Cup. She said, “In the beginning, we were feeling a little nervous because we had never played against Uganda before. However, our confidence has increased after winning the first match. InshaAllah, we will try to play well in the next matches and win medals for the country.”
Bangladesh will face Germany in their second match in Group 'A' on Tuesday.
