Argentine football icon Claudio Caniggia is set to visit Bangladesh next month to take part in the AFB Latin-Bangla Super Cup Football Tournament, which will be held from December 5–11 at the National Stadium in Dhaka.
The former Argentina international, known worldwide for his blistering pace and partnership with Diego Maradona, confirmed his visit in a video message to Bangladeshi fans.
“Hello Bangladesh, I am Claudio Caniggia. I’m happy to be part of this event. I hope to see you all soon at the AFB Latin-Bangla Super Cup on December 11 and enjoy it together,” said the former World Cup star.
Caniggia was one of the standout performers for Argentina during the 1990 and 1994 FIFA World Cups, famously scoring against Brazil in the 1990 Round of 16 and helping his team reach the final. His flamboyant style and long, flowing hair made him one of the most recognizable figures in football during the late 1980s and 1990s.
The AFB Latin-Bangla Super Cup, organized by AFBoxing Promotion International, will feature Atletico Charlon from Argentina, Sao Bernardo FC from Brazil, and a Bangladesh age-group team to be assembled by the Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF).
Alongside Caniggia, Brazilian World Cup-winning captain Cafu will also attend the event — making it a rare occasion for Bangladeshi fans to see two South American legends together in Dhaka.
Organizers have described Caniggia’s visit as a historic moment for Bangladeshi football fans, many of whom grew up admiring his dazzling performances for Argentina.
