State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Aninda Islam Amit has said that the majority of those martyred in the past anti-fascist movement were working-class people.
He made the remarks while speaking as the chief guest at a discussion meeting organised by the Jashore district administration on Friday morning, marking International Workers’ Day.
The state minister said the government is committed to workers and has taken initiatives to reopen closed factories and restore jobs.
He said steps are also being taken to ensure fair wages for workers.
Mentioning various welfare measures, he said farmer cards and family cards would bring some relief to workers and marginal people.
He also said agricultural loans up to Tk 10,000 for farmers have been waived.
Referring to crop losses due to excessive rainfall in haor areas, he said the government has announced special food assistance for three months in those regions.
After the programme, the chief guest distributed grant cheques among workers.
