The High Court on Tuesday refused to grant bail to Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari, a former ISKCON leader, in a sedition case filed over disrespecting the national flag.
The court, however, issued a rule asking the state to explain in two weeks why Chinmoy Das should not be granted bail in this case.
The bench of Justice Md Atoar Rahman and Justice Md Ali Reza issued the rule after holding hearing on a petition filed by Chinmoy seeking bail in the case.
Chinmoy cannot get released from jail following the HC order, Advocate Apurba Kumar Bhattacharjee, principal lawyer for Chinmoy Krishna Das, said.
Additional Attorney Generals Abdul Jabbar Bhuiyan, Mohammad Arshadur Rauf and Aneek R Haque opposed the bail petition during the hearing.
Advocate Apurba Kumar submitted the bail petition on behalf of Chinmoy to the HC on January 12.
Citing the bail petition, he said the sedition case against Chinmoy is not acceptable as there is no government order for filing the case.
