Youth and Sports Adviser Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuiyan has called on the Election Commission to include expatriates in the voter list, enabling them to exercise their right to vote.
"I want a clear roadmap to ensure voting rights for the expatriates. It is my demand to the EC. We want the expatriates to get their right to exercise franchise. The government will work for this,” he said.
He made the remarks while addressing the National Expatriate Day-2024 at Osmani Memorial Auditorium in Dhaka on Wednesday, according to UNB.
The adviser alleged that collaborators of the fascist government harassed Bangladeshi expatriates abroad instead of providing services during the July Revolution for their stance against the fascist.
The expatriates portrayed the situation of the country to the world when the then Awami League carried out killings after shutting down the internet, he said.
The adviser stated that many expatriates were imprisoned for violating regulations while attempting to show support for the July protesters.
They received complaints over passport issues several times and urged the relevant authorities to address it soon, he added.
