Chief Adviser Prof. Muhammad Yunus on Wednesday paid rich tributes to the champion of democracy and one of the greatest leaders of undivided India Hussain Shaheed Suhrawardy on the occasion of his 61st death anniversary, to be observed tomorrow.
"On the occasion of the 61st death anniversary of Hussain Shaheed Suhrawardy, a renowned politician of the subcontinent and the champion of democracy, I pay my deepest respect to his memory. I pray for the eternal peace of his departed soul", he said in a message on the eve of the day, according to BSS.
The chief adviser said that Suhrawardy fought his whole life for the socio-economic development and political rights of the working people of this subcontinent.
Since the establishment of Pakistan in 1947, Hussain Shaheed Suhrawardy had mobilized and organized the people of this country against the anti-people activities of the then Pakistani government.
Hussain Shaheed Suhrawardy was a liberal and wise political figure, a far-sighted statesman and a pioneer of non-communal consciousness, said Prof. Yunus.
He had a genuine compassion for the common people, he said, adding that Suhrawardy worked throughout his life to establish democratic rights of the people and develop non-communal politics and for the socio-economic development of the people of this region.
"This political figure, who respected democratic norms and public opinion, was called the 'Champion of Democracy'," the chief adviser said.
