The International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) has sent eight individuals, including former inspector general of police (IGP) Chowdhury Abdullah Al Mamun and former National Telecommunication Monitoring Centre (NTMC) director general Major General (retd) Ziaul Ahsan, to jail in connection with mass killings and crimes against humanity committed during the July-August mass uprising.
The tribunal, led by Chairman Justice Md Golam Mortuza Majumder, set December 19 as the deadline for the submission of the investigation report and the next hearing.
The eight accused include former IGP Chowdhury Abdullah Al Mamun, former NTMC chief Ziaul Ahsan, suspended additional superintendent of police of Dhaka district Abdullahil Kafi, former Jatrabari Police Station officer-in-charge (OC) Abul Hasan, former inspector of Dhaka North Detective Branch (DB) Md Arafat Hossain, and former Gulshan Police Station OC Md Mazharul Haque, and
Six of the accused were brought before the ICT from Kashimpur Central Jail, while the former IGP and former NTMC chief were produced from Narayanganj District Jail.
Earlier, on October 27, the tribunal had issued arrest warrants for 17 former police officials related to the allegations. Of these, eight individuals who had already been arrested were presented before the International Crimes Tribunal earlier on Wednesday.
