Two minor children on Sunday have been burnt to death as a house caught fire in Faridpur’s Bhanga upazila, reports UNB.
The deceased, Ismail Munsi, 4, son of Siddiq Munsi, and Yasin Munsi, 3, son of Asad Munsi, were seriously burned in the incident and later succumbed to their injuries while undergoing treatment at the burn unit of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH).
The incident occurred on Sunday when the two children were playing in the kitchen of their home. In the absence of adult members, they reportedly placed some jute chalk into the cooking stove. The jute quickly caught fire, which spread rapidly, engulfing the kitchen.
The frightened children fled to a nearby bathroom, but the flames soon spread there as well.
The villagers attempted to extinguish the fire, unaware that the children were trapped inside the bathrooms.
After the flames were brought under control, the children's screams were heard, and they were rushed to Bhanga Upazila Health Complex with severe injuries. Both were later transferred to the burn unit of Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where they died around 9:15pm.
Doctor Mouli Chowdhury of Bhanga Upazila Health Complex said Yasin sustained 68% burns, while Ismail was burned over 90% of his body.
