Mirza Fakhrul, Secretary General of Bangladesh Nationalist Party(BNP), believes that no hasty decision should be taken regarding the resignation of President Shabuddin.
According to him, everything must be done based on the Constitution.
In response to questions from journalists, he made these remarks after placing a wreath on the grave of late President Ziaur Rahman on the occasion of the 46th anniversary of ‘Jubodol’(Youth wing of BNP) on Sunday.
Even though there has been a movement related to the resignation of the current president Shahabuddin, the government is yet to take any decision on the matter.
Yesterday, the leaders of Anti-Discrimination Student Movement discussed the matter with BNP leaders. However, BNP did not make a final decision regarding this. The party has stated that discussions on the removal of the President will take place within the party forum before any decision is formally announced.
The BNP secretary General urged the government to arrange an election after the reformation.
“After the reformation process is done, a neutral election must be arranged as quickly as possible,” said the BNP Secretary General.
He also notes that Unity is needed to ensure that the “fruit” of mass uprising is not wasted.
