Manipur’s ruling alliance MLAs passed a resolution Monday, urging the centre to declare the Kuki militants as an “unlawful organisation”, reports The Hindu.
In the wake of the killing of six Metai women and children in Jiribam district, they made the urge to the centre.
In the resolution they demanded a review of the imposition of the Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) in five valley districts amid an escalation in violence in the state.
The Armed Forces Special Powers Act, or AFSPA, gives Army personnel sweeping powers in disturbed areas to search, arrest and open fire if deemed necessary for “the maintenance of public order”.
At a cabinet meeting chaired by chief minister N. Biren Singh, the MLAs demanded “mass operations against Kuki militants responsible for” the 6 murder.
