With 10 days left until the U.S. presidential election, Oscar-winning actor Leonardo DiCaprio has endorsed Democratic candidate Kamala Harris for president.
In a video posted to his Instagram, DiCaprio explained his choice, saying, “Climate change is destroying our planet and hurting our economy; we need bold steps forward to protect both. That's why I'm voting for Kamala Harris.”, reports India Today.
The "Killers of the Flower Moon" star emphasized the link between climate change and recent extreme weather events, citing hurricanes Helene and Milton as examples of "unnatural disasters" influenced by climate change.
A longtime supporter of climate initiatives, DiCaprio previously backed Democratic candidates, including attending a Joe Biden fundraiser in early 2020.
DiCaprio commended Harris’s commitment to reaching net-zero emissions by 2050 and her work promoting a green economy.
He noted her pivotal role in passing the Inflation Reduction Act, which she supported as vice president with her deciding vote in favor of Biden's major climate legislation.
He also criticized Donald Trump for removing the U.S. from the Paris Climate Accord and for rolling back environmental protections, accusing him of “denying science.”
Urging others to vote, DiCaprio concluded, “Join me in voting for Kamala Harris on November 5th because we cannot afford to go backwards.”
DiCaprio joins a list of celebrities endorsing Harris, including Beyoncé, Eminem, Taylor Swift, Oprah Winfrey, Meryl Streep, Chris Rock, and George Clooney, as Election Day draws near.
