Indian Police have arrested 43 Bangladeshi nationals from Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, and Gujarat for illegal stay.

Of those, 36 were arrested from Tirupur city in Tamil Nadu alone, increasing the number of Bangladeshi arrestee in January [Till January 25th] at the city to 86.

Following a complaint that these suspected Bangladeshi nationals had been living in Tirupur city and its surrounding areas without valid Indian documents for a long time, the Central and State Intelligence agency and the Anti-Terrorism Squad jointly conducted a raid and arrested them.

Police on Friday said: “On the basis of specific information about the whereabouts of the illegal Bangladeshis, the Intelligence and Anti-Terrorism Squad officers and the state police conducted a raid and arrested 36 suspected Bangladeshi nationals.”

“None of them had valid documents to reside in India. Later, all of them were handed over to the city police.”

Tirupur Police too confirmed this matter.

Later, when the arrested Bangladeshi nationals were sent to court, the local court ordered their judicial custody.

Meanwhile, three Bangladeshis have been arrested from Rajkot, Gujarat on charges of illegal residence. An officer from Rajkot Police’s Special Operations Group said that an investigation is underway to understand the reason behind the presence of three Bangladeshi nationals, including a woman, in India, and whether they have any criminal cases against them.

The two arrested men have confessed to being Bangladeshis and living in Rajkot for the past two months.

On the other hand, the arrested woman also claimed to be Bangladeshi. She has been living in Rajkot for the past two years. Prior to that, she had lived in Mumbai for about 6-7 years.

In addition, four Bangladeshi nationals have been arrested from Karnataka, India, on charges of illegal residence. The Central Crime Branch and Bengaluru police conducted a joint operation to arrest these four Bangladeshi nationals. Three Bangladeshi women were working at a local spa. Furthermore, the live-in partner of one of these women was also arrested.
