The BNP Standing Committee held a meeting on Monday to discuss the contemporary issues, including resignation of the President Mohammed Shahabuddin.
According to a source, the resignation could lead to a constitutional void in the country, potentially postponing the national election. This issue was thoroughly discussed during the meeting.
The meeting also discussed many important issues including relations with alliance partners and like-minded parties and leaders of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement about the next general election and its possible timeframe, said the source.
The meeting was held at BNP Chairperson Khaled Zia’s Gulshan office this night where party’s Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman joined the meeting virtually from London.
The BNP policymakers also expressed concern over the issue of resignation of the president and feared that there may be any motive behind the demand.
Party policymakers expressed concers that the election could be delayed if any constitutional vacuum is created following the resignation of the president, said the source on condition of anonymity.
