Major General Mohammad Jahangir Alam has been appointed as the new Director General (DG) of the Directorate General of Forces Intelligence (DGFI).
He succeeds Major General Faizur Rahman, who has been promoted to lieutenant general and made the quartermaster general.
The announcement was made on Monday (14 October).
Major General Mohammad Jahangir Alam was commissioned in 11 East Bengal Regiment on 9 June 1992 with 26 BMA Long Course. In his long and illustrious career, he served in various command and staff appointments with great sincerity and devotion. As Commanding Officer, he commanded 14 Bangladesh Infantry Regiment. Later, as Brigade Commander, he commanded two Infantry Brigades; 44 Infantry Brigade and 203 Inf Brigade.
Notably, 203 Infantry is one of the operational brigades of Chattogram Hill Tracts where he was the Region Commander as well. As a staff, he has extensive experience holding various important assignments in Unit, Brigade Headquarters, Division Headquarters, Army Headquarters and also in CAS’ Secretariat. He also served as Director National Security Intelligence (NSI) for nearly a year.
Major General Jahangir Alam was the Sector Commander in United Nations peacekeeping operations in South Sudan for nearly two years where he commanded soldiers from home and abroad. He also served as Liaison Officer of Infantry Security Battalion on deputation in Kuwait Armed Forces.
Jahangir Alam is a graduate from National Defense College, Mirpur and Defense Services Command and Staff College, Mirpur. He participated in various professional training curriculum including foreign courses in New Zealand and Uganda.
He was awarded with 'Bishishto Seba Padak' (Distinguished Service Medal) for his outstanding and exemplary performance during the Rana Plaza disaster. Besides, the Major General was also awarded with 'Force Commander's Commendation' for exemplary performance in peacekeeping missions and the 'Certificate of Appreciation' for excellence as a Commanding Officer from CAS Bangladesh Army.
Jahangir Alam recently served as the General Officer Commanding of the 33 Infantry Division, where he made an exemplary contribution in managing the disaster caused by a sudden flood in the Cumilla area, playing a key role in saving many lives.
