Bangladesh Pratidin Editor Naem Nizam has become the top taxpayer in the country in the journalists’ category.
A total of five journalists have become the top taxpayers in the category this year.
Four other journalists are -- Prothom Alo Editor Matiur Rahman, Daily Star Editor Mahfuz Anam, Channel I Managing Director Faridur Reza Sagar and the same media outlet’s Director and Head of News Shykh Seraj.
The Ministry of Finance published a gazette comprising names of the highest taxpayers under various categories on December 18.
The gazette notification nominated 141 individuals and companies for tax card facilities for the next one year.
Naem Nizam, the senior journalist, will get a tax card with various national facilities. The National Board of Revenue (NBR) will hand over the tax card to him and others.
Meanwhile, East West Media Group Limited (EWMGL), the umbrella organisation of media units of the Bashundhara Group, including Bangladesh Pratidin, Kaler Kantho and Daily Sun, has been nominated for tax card facilities for the seventh time in a row for significant contributions to the national exchequer.
EWMGL has achieved the highest taxpayer status in the “Print and Electronic Media” category.
