Three people were killed in a three-way collision involving a motorcycle, a microbus, and a battery-powered van in Meherpur.
The accident occurred near Ahmad Ali Technical School and College in the town at about 5:30 pm on Monday.
The deceased are Akhtaruzzaman Shovon, 29, Al Imran, 28 and 8-year-old child Jubayer Hossain.
Of them, Akhtaruzzaman was an officer at NRBC Bank's Rupnagar branch in Dhaka and hailed from Ujalpur village in Meherpur Sadar Upazila. The child, Jubayer, was the son of Ali Hasan from Dhankhola village in Gangni Upazila and Al Imran was from Baribaka village in Meherpur Sadar Upazila.
Jubayer’s father, Ali Hasan, who was driving the van, and Palash, the driver of the microbus, sustained serious injuries and were admitted to the hospital.
According to local sources and the police, the microbus was heading toward Meherpur, while Akhtaruzzaman and Imran were travelling toward Chuadanga on a motorcycle. The collision occurred near Ahmad Ali Technical School and College on the Meherpur-Chuadanga road.
The microbus lost control and crashed into a roadside milestone.
Passers-by and fire service personnel rescued the injured and rushed them to Meherpur General Hospital.
Akhtaruzzaman succumbed to his injuries at Meherpur General Hospital while Imran and Jubayer died on the way to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital.
Meherpur Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge Sheikh Mesbah Uddin stated that the involved vehicles have been taken into police custody and legal proceedings are underway.
