PBI receives 3201-page long case docket

The Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) has received a 3201-page long case docket on journalist couple Sagar Sarowar and Meherun Runi murder case.

Confirming this matter, additional superintendent of police at PBI and investigation office in the case Md Azizul Haque said, “On November 4, I received the case docket from Anwar Hossain Bhuiyan, additional superintendent of police at the RAB. The investigation is ongoing.”

He added, “The investigation process will be completed within six months, following High Court’s instructions.”

According to sources, on September 30 of this year, the High Court ordered the formation of a four-member task force to investigate the case and asked to complete the investigation within six months.

At the same time, an order issued to remove RAB from the investigation process.

The High Court Division Justice Farah Mahbub and Justice Muhammad Mahbub Ul Islam passed the order in response to a petition.

Later, on October 17, the government formed a four-member taskforce making the chief of the police bureau of investigation (PBI) the convener. The home affairs ministry issued a notification in this regard. An additional inspector general rank officer of the police directorate, an additional inspector general rank officer of the CID, and a director rank officer of the Rab will be members of the task force.

The task force has been asked to submit its report to the High Court within six months after completing the investigation.

During the latest hearing of the case the investigation officers failed to submit the report, hence the court fixed November 18 as the next hearing day.

Runi’s brother and the plaintiff in the case Nawsher Alam Roman said, “PBI has contacted me, but I couldn’t go there as I was outside of the capital. I’ll visit there as soon as possible.”

He expressed his optimism on call saying, “A taskforce committee has been formed, and I’m very optimistic.”

Sagar’s mother Saleha Monir said, “I’ve seen the news of taskforce committee formation.”

She had confidence in the previous investigation body, but they came with nothing, she said, “An era has passed, but nothing has happened as expected. I had confidence in those who investigated before. But they did not get any effective results.”
