The third general meeting of the National Citizens Party (NCP) held a long discussion on the upcoming programs, regional organizational policies and reform proposals.
The meeting set the minimum age for becoming the district and upazila committee convener at 40 years. At the same time, it was decided to form a disciplinary and investigation committee in the wake of allegations against some party leaders and activists.
The meeting was held at the NCP's temporary central office at Rupayan Trade Center in Banglamotor in the capital from 3 pm to midnight on Friday. The meeting was chaired by party convener Nahid Islam, while member secretary Akhter Hossain moderated the meeting.
In a press release after the meeting, the party said that several important issues were discussed in the general meeting, including finalizing the regional organizational structure, formulating reform proposals, demanding Constituent Assembly elections and taking programs demanding justice for the Awami League’s genocide, and calling on the government to take effective steps to stop border killings.
In addition, the government was urged to take a strong stance in protest against the Israeli violence in Gaza and the crackdown on the anti-Waqf Bill movement in India, and in protest against the rise in commodity prices.
Chief organizers Sarjis Alam (Northern Region) and Hasnat Abdullah (Southern Region) proposed necessary policies to increase the party's organizational dynamics.
In the proposed policy, it was decided to divide 64 districts into 19 zones. There will be 31 to 51 members in the district committee and 21 to 41 members in the upazila committee. The age limit for being a convener in both the committees must be at least 40 years.
The notification further stated that a decision has been unanimously made to form a disciplinary and investigation committee following allegations of anti-discipline behavior against some party leaders and activists on social media and in public. The announcement of this committee will be made next Sunday.
Meanwhile, the NCP's Dhaka Metropolitan branch will hold a protest program this week demanding justice, reforms, and Constituent Assembly elections, the party has also said.
