Who will benefit if elections delayed, questions Tarique Rahman

BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman said if a political party's plan is to be successful, then the best way is to form a government with the support of the people through votes and implement those plans.

“One of our main goals and objectives as a political party is to seek votes from the people and hold elections. Today, we see that some individuals, some organizations suddenly say that BNP only wants elections. BNP does not understand anything except elections,” he said.

He also said, “BNP is a political party. Since we believe in the rule of the people, since we believe in the political power of the people, since we believe in democracy, since we believe in the politics of votes, naturally we will want elections. We will ask for votes from the people, we will ask for elections in the country. This is a natural thing. Why are some people making a normal thing unusual? We have to think about that. We have to think about whether there is any other goal or objective lying here. If the elections are delayed in Bangladesh at this moment, who will be benefited? Whose interests will be served? That is an important issue today.”

He said this while addressing the Comilla Metropolitan BNP conference as the chief guest held at the Town Hall premises on Tuesday while virtually joining the event.

Tarique Rahman said, "As a political activist, I believe that if we can create the foundation of democracy in Bangladesh, if we can continue the practice of democracy, then it will be possible to protect this country and its people from conspiracies. The more we can continue the practice of democracy, the more we can ensure the right of the people to vote. We can protect all the people of the country from conspiracies."

He said, "In the last 15-16 years, BNP has overcome oppression, torture, disappearances, missing persons’ cases, false cases etc. All of us who are part of BNP believe that BNP has become a party of the people today. BNP has been able to transform itself into a political party of the people. We may have many obstacles. But the effort is ongoing to overcome these obstacles in stages and fulfill the people's needs more firmly. This effort will continue in the coming days as well.”
