Inspector General of Police (IGP) Benazir Ahmed has received USA visa to join a 2-day United Nations Chiefs of Police Summit (UNCOPS 2022) scheduled to be held from August 31 to September 1, reports UNB.
The IGP is included in a 6 -member delegation slated to participate at the meeting. Led by Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan, the delegation will leave Dhaka for USA on Sunday night, said Sharif Mahmud Apu, Public Relation Officer of the Home Ministry
An official of the home ministry said that the IGP has been granted visa only to join the summit.
Benazir Ahmed had a US visa before the sanction was imposed.
On December 10, 2021, the United States sanctioned IGP Benazir and six other former and serving commanders in the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) on charge of "human rights violations."
Benazir Ahmed served as the director general of RAB before becoming the country’s police chief.
