Former Election Commissioner (EC) Mahbub Talukdar passed away at a city hospital on Wednesday.
He was 80.
Iren Mahbub, daughter of Mahbub Talukdar, said, "My father fell sick around 12 pm. He was taken to United Hospital. The doctors there said that he suffered a massive heart attack and died around 1 pm."
Mahbub Talukdar was suffering from cancer for a long time.
The former Election Commissioner was much focused on media due to his bold role during his service in the commission.
Talukdar was a former civil servant. He was awarded Bangla Academy Literary Award in 2012 for his contribution to juvenile literature. He was also a Freedom Fighter and joined the exiled government in 1971.
He was born on February 13, 1942, at Purbadhala upazila in Netrokona district. Talukdar started his career as a teacher at the University of Chittagong where he taught Bengali language and literature from 1968 to 1970.
