Three fishermen drowned and one went missing as their trawler capsized in the Bay of Bengal near the Nijhum Dwip under Hatia upazila of Noakhali on Friday.
Twelve other fishermen were rescued in the incident.
Among the deceased, two fishermen were identified as Maeen Uddin, 45 and Md Raful, 25, residents of Amtali village and Notun Sukhchar village respectively under the Jahajmara union of Hatia.
Police said the trawler ‘M V Shiraj’ drowned around 10 am due to a storm while fishing in the Dhamarchar area of the Bay of Bengal.
Confirming the matter, Hatia Police Station Officer-in-Charge Amir Hossain said, the police force has been sent to the spot.
The country’s maritime ports have been advised to hoist local cautionary signal three as the weather marked low over Northeast Bay, said the weather department on Friday.
All fishing boats and trawlers in the North Bay have been advised to come close to the coast and proceed with caution until further notice, it added.
