Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) detained a man with 17 gold bars weighing 1.985 kg in Sharsha upazila of Jashore on Friday.
The detainee is Montaj Hossain, 45, a resident of Patuakhali district, reports UNB.
BGB battalion commander Lt Col Tanveer Rahman said acting on a tip-off that drugs were being transported to India from Jashore, a team of BGB-21 detained the man with the gold bars worth Tk 1.63 crore from the Rudra border area of the Sharsha upazila around 11 am.
The detainee was handed over to Sharsha Police Station, he added.
