The country’s maritime ports have been advised to hoist local cautionary signal three as the weather marked low over Northeast Bay, said the weather department on Friday.
All fishing boats and trawlers in the North Bay have been advised to come close to the coast and proceed with caution until further notice, it added.
In the latest bulletin, Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) said, the weather marked low over Northeast Bay moved Northwestwards, and intensified into a depression over Northwest Bay and adjoining areas.
It is likely to intensify further and move Northwestwards.
Sea will remain rough near the depression centre.
Under its influence deep convection is taking place and a steep pressure gradient persists over North Bay and adjoining coastal areas of Bangladesh. Squally weather may affect the maritime ports, North Bay and adjoining coastal areas of Bangladesh.
The low-lying areas of the coastal districts of Satkhira, Khulna, Bagherhat, Jhalokathi, Pirojpur, Barguna, Patuakhali, Bhola, Barishal, Laxmipur, Chandpur, Noakhali, Feni, Chattogram, Cox's Bazar and their offshore islands and chars are likely to be inundated by the wind has driven surge height of 2-4 feet above normal astronomical tide, it added.
