The price of broiler chicken has increased by Tk 80 per kg in Dinajpur following the essential commodities price hike.
Middle and low-income families of the district are in trouble due to the price hike of this important daily essential. As a result, people are buying chickens at a kg rate instead of a whole one to meet the demand for protein.
The price of the broiler chicken was at Tk 140-150 per kg just four days ago. Suddenly it soared by Tk 50-80 per kg.
However, the prices of the local and Sonali chicken remained unchanged.
Apart from Dinajpur town, broiler chicken meat is being cut and sold at kg rate at various upazila under the district.
Growers said after the Eid-ul-Azha, the demand for broiler chicken was less in the market. Chickens are likely to die during this summer. Many farmers shut down chicken farms fearing loss.
The prices of chicken increased due to the poor supply, they added.
